Mr. Ilkka Lakaniemi
Ilkka Lakaniemi is Vice President, Digital Economy & Growth at the Finland Chamber of Commerce in Helsinki, Finland and Research Director, Center for Knowledge and Innovation Research at the Aalto University School of Business. In his current double role, Ilkka efficiently combines business, policymaking and academic research viewpoints. This allows him to lead large-scale public-private partnerships to best utilise AI, platforms, IoT and other enablers for digitalisation in key European and Finnish economic sectors such as smart infrastructures, manufacturing and transport.
Ilkka is the Chairman of the Finnish Information Society Development Centre (TIEKE) and serves as an advisor to the European Commission on the Digital Single Market (DSM) integrating regional and national activities. He is also a founder of the Finnish-German Digital Partnership-programme in Industry 4.0-co-operation areas.
Ilkka held various senior management roles at the Nokia Corporation (2000-12) in corporate foresight, strategy, venturing and corporate relations. He represented Nokia e.g. at the OECD, the World Bank, the United Nations and the European Roundtable of the Industrialists (ERT) building concrete initiatives to bridge the Digital Divide and wider ICT-utilization and skills development in societies and businesses.
In the 1990s, he was a Research Fellow/Associate and Visiting Scholar at leading US and European universities in the fields of development economics, innovation management, technology policy and regional economic integration.
