Dr. Nitin Pandit

Dr. Nitin Pandit is the CEO of WRI India. Nitin leads WRI’s work in India across all objective areas and centers of excellence and is responsible for formulating, leading, and implementing WRI India’s vision and strategy. Nitin is a part of the global executive team of the WRI network and works with program leads in India, staff and the Board of Directors in WRI USA to provide coherence in strategy and planning. In addition, Nitin also works closely with WRI’s Country Directors in Brazil and China to cultivate south-south programs.

Prior to joining WRI India, Nitin was the President of International Institute for Energy Conservation (IIEC), where he was responsible for offices in US, UK, India, Thailand, Philippines, South Africa, China and Brazil during his 13 year tenure to implement novel sustainable energy programs in developing countries. Previously Nitin also formed and ran a boutique entrepreneurial high-tech for-profit consulting firm called Ensys Inc. specializing in niche applications of state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (AI) techniques, policy methods, and offset counter-trading for environmental problem solving and renewable energy systems. With Roy F Weston Inc, he led a multi-disciplined applied R&D department to develop computer-aided methodologies to solve environmental problems for U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and other clients. In the late seventies, Nitin started his career in water resource development projects with Dubon Project Engineering and as a Geotechnical engineer with Woodward Clyde Consultants.

An expert on accelerating the implementation of energy conservation programs, Nitin like to focus on efficiency improvement on a massive scale for greenhouse gas emission reduction and sustainable development in developing countries. He specialises in the development of innovative institutions and policies for sustainable development across developed and developing countries.

Nitin has a PhD in Public Policy from George Mason University, a Masters in Civil and Environmental Engineering majoring in Artificial Intelligence from Carnegie Mellon University, a Masters in Civil Engineering majoring in Geotechnical Engineering from Lehigh University and a Bachelors in Civil Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani.
